Kronos I3 FTS system

Safety first when flying with DJI Inspire 3

Nowadays, drones have become an integral part of many industries, from film production to infrastructure inspections. However, with the increasing complexity and deployment of drones comes an increased need for safety, especially for higher-risk flights that go beyond the scope of “open” category operations. For such specific operations, compliance with strict regulatory requirements is essential, and one of the key elements is an independent flight termination system (FTS).

What is an FTS system and why is it so important?

The FTS system is your emergency brake in critical situations. Its primary function is to disconnect the UAV’s power supply in an emergency, preventing the drone from leaving a predefined flight area and minimizing potential risks to people and property on the ground. Think of it as an intelligent safety switch that ensures the drone does not leave the flight area even in the event of unexpected events.

FTS System Remote Control

Kronos I3: Reusable system for maximum reliability

The Kronos I3 FTS system is designed with reliability and reusability in mind. It consists of several key components:

  • Remote control: Allows the pilot to manually activate the FTS when necessary.
  • FTS connector between batteries: This ingenious component ensures immediate and safe disconnection of the drone’s power supply.
  • Integrated parachute: A key element for reducing impact energy after FTS activation.

How does Kronos I3 work in practice?

In the event of unpredictable drone behavior, when there is no other way to resolve the situation, the FTS can be activated either manually by the operator or autonomously if the system detects non-standard UAV behavior.

Upon activation, the engines are immediately stopped and a parachute is deployed, which significantly slows down the drone’s fall.

A major advantage of the Kronos I3 system is its independence from drone control. This means that the FTS works reliably even in situations where there is signal interference or controller failure. This separate architecture is key to maximum safety.

Autonomous system: Faster and safer than humans

Kronos I3 takes safety to a new level with its autonomous parachute module. While it takes a human operator approximately 3 seconds to deploy a parachute, the autonomous system can do it in an incredible 0.27 seconds! The autonomous system is thus demonstrably faster than human intervention.
